Curriculum
We believe students should have a learning experience which has context and is connected to their lives in meaningful ways. Students spend the morning working toward their individual learning goals in Language Arts & Math. In the afternoon, students are given the time and space for curiosity, playfulness, socialization, planning, and reflection as they pursue their own interests and work on our current Curiosity Untamed Badges . Fridays are set aside for Collaborative Project work in the areas of history, science, geography, global perspectives/current events, and the arts.
At Green Gate, each student's learning experience is personalized to his or her unique interests, goals, and learning style. Students are responsible for shaping and directing their own education while teachers serve as advisors and facilitators by helping students set appropriate goals and locate useful resources.
Cycle of Learning
Intention
What do you intend to accomplish today?
We decide and articulate what we want to do and set goals individually and as a group.
Creation
What are you going to do about it?
Learners spend their days exploring ideas and and building knowledge– once we know what we want, we make it happen.
Reflection
What did you learn from your choices?
Looking back, we develop awareness of what worked and what didn’t, so we can move forward more effectively.
Sharing
How can you share it with the world?
We document our work to record,
exhibit, and share our experience with others.
